I am not prescribing any cough treatment for children three months or younger. I do not recommend any oral treatment for a child under six months of age.
I am sharing some home remedies for cold and cough in newborns.
Ajwain Potli (Home Remedies For Cough and Cold)
Ajwain or carom seeds have antiviral and antibacterial properties. Dry roast on a toast or pan. Put Ajin in a cotton cloth and make a bundle of it. Gently rub it under the baby’s chest, back, legs and palms.
Make sure the package is not too hot. First, check the temperature by placing the package on your wrist. Make sure the baby has a layer of cloth on your body before packing.
Caution: Do not rub it on your child’s bare chest.
You can place the package near the baby’s nose or in the baby’s crib to get rid of the odor. This is a beneficial treatment to cure the baby’s cough.

Breastfeeding is the first and most relevant solution to treat your newborn’s cold and cough. During your baby’s first six months, breast milk is a way to heal your baby’s body from any discomfort. Breast milk improves your baby’s immunity to fight bacteria, germs, and viruses.
You can put a few drops of breast milk in each of your baby’s fistulas. This will help to cure cough and cold quickly.

Holi Basil is a sacred plant of Indian culture and is an herb commonly used in Indian families. Holy basil has antiviral, antibacterial, and antibiotic properties that help treat diseases such as colds and coughs, fevers, throat infections, flu, and congestion. Holi basil is one of the most widely used ingredients in many home remedies.
For Little children, you can add basil to the oil and massage it with your baby.

Your child may have trouble sleeping due to a blocked and stuffy nose. She may have difficulty breathing while sleeping. To get your baby to sleep comfortably, use a pillow, and raise his head slightly. It helps your baby breathe easily during congestion.

You can also use the bathroom as a steam room, turn on the hot water taps or shower and leave the door closed. Sit in the bathroom with your baby for ten to fifteen minutes. Your baby will get plenty of steam.
If your child does not like steam, then you can use a humidifier or vapor in the room in his sleeping area. This will help keep the room moist.

Please keep your hands clean and wash them frequently. Because your child has a cold and cough, dirty hands can spread the germs to your child.
Wash your hands thoroughly before handling your baby. Also, keep your baby’s hands clean. You can use a wet wipe to clean your baby’s hands. Please advise everyone to wash or clean their hands before holding their baby.
Saffron (Home Remedies For Cough and Cold)
Saffron is a stimulant tonic, which helps treat colds, coughs, congestion, and fever. Adults may have saffron in their milk, but in children, it is used to apply the cold saffron paste on the forehead to get rid of colds quickly.

- Please don’t give honey to children under one year of age. It can cause a rare disease called infantile botulism.
- If your child has a cold, cover your child according to the season. Baby covers must be in baby clothes to cover the chest from the cold and keep it warm.
- There is nothing to worry about in case of cold and cough. Cold and cough in children help in boosting their immune system.
- Loss of appetite is common during coughs and colds. Do not force-feed your baby.
- Give your child lots of love. Your love and touch help your baby recover faster.
If your child has a cold and cough as well as other problems, do not try home remedies and do not go to the pediatrician for a check-up.
- Do not try any home remedies for children under three months.
- Breastfeed your baby as much as possible. Breast milk is full of antibodies that help to fight off all kinds of germs, viruses, and bacteria.
- If your child has any symptoms such as high fever, drowsiness, constant crying, body aches, difficulty breathing, you should seek medical help immediately.
